Why are you offering paddleboarding at Sheffield Park and Garden?

At Sheffield Park and Garden, we're committed to offering unique experiences that connect you with nature.  Following in the footsteps of the Third Earl, a previous owner who held public diving displays on the lake, we're excited to be offering this brand new activity offering a different and fun perspective on the gardens.

The water level differs across the lake, the deepest point is at 2 metres.

Depending on the weather this may be a swim suit and 3mm wetsuit or gym leggings/shorts and a rash vest, with old trainers or shoes that you don't mind getting wet. You may also need a windproof jacket, hat, sunglasses, sun cream and lip balm.

Water / flask of hot drink and snacks.

Please do not bring any valuables wherever possible. If you have a dry bag this is a great item to bring along to pop your belongings in.

Tuition from qualified instructors.

A supportive, fun and nurturing learning environment.

How long is the session?

Self launch is not yet possible at Sheffield Park. There will be scheduled sessions where boards are available to hire for those who have previous experience of paddleboarding and have completed a SUP Taster session as a minimum. We hope to update you on self-launch and hire in the near future.

What happens if I’m late?

We are unable to delay the start of the session for latecomers but aim to be as accommodating as possible. If more than 15mins late your place will be offered to someone on the waitlist and you will need to rebook your session.

What should I expect during the session?

A lot of fun and to learn and improve your skills, whatever your start point is.

We start with a land safety briefing before launching onto the water.

Will I fall in?

The saying goes, ‘If you’re not falling in you’re not trying hard enough’! Paddleboarding is a water sport and the chances of you falling in are very high. Even if you don’t fall in you will be expected to practice and demonstrate a self-rescue. Being able to independently get yourself back on your board is a key skill.

What happens if I fall in?

Falling in is part of the fun. You will be taught how to fall safely and also how to get yourself back on your board.

What is the minimum age?

Until further notice, all under 18s must be accompanied by an adult.

What is the group size?

To ensure a personal service the instructor/student ratio is typically of 1:6. For larger group bookings the ratio is 2:10 to maintain safety.

Do I need to be able to swim?

You will need some level of water confidence and ideally should be able to swim 25m unaided.

Where do the sessions take place?

We launch from the far side (closest to Cricket Pavilion) of Upper Women’s Way Pond. Note this is a 20min walk from the main Visitor Reception.

Is there parking?

Free parking is available on site in the main car park.

Are there toilets and changing facilities?

Please arrive as water ready as possible and with minimal belongings

Toilets are at the main entrance.

We also have use of the toilets and changing facilities in the Cricket Pavilion.

What happens if the weather is bad when my activity is due to take place?

We find that the weather forecast can change quickly so we don’t look too far ahead because most often the stormy weather is very local and misses us completely.

We dynamically assess conditions constantly to keep our staff and clients safe. In the event that we cannot operate we will let you know and arrange your session for a different day. If you do not hear from us then presume that all is well for your session to go ahead.

What should I do if I need to cancel a SUP session?

If you have booked a class and can no longer attend, please let us know as soon as possible and refer to our Refund and Cancellation Policy.
