The Adur River around Shoreham is a very special and protected site - known as a Site of 

Special Scientific Interest. 

This intertidal stretch of river and site of mud flats and salt marsh is a haven for many birds providing rich nutrition and also roosting places. Regular inhabitants such as Oyster Catchers and and Turnstones are joined by migratory and over-wintering birds such as Redshank and Lapwings and many more. It is also a much loved paddling destination with its beautiful scenery and easy accessibility from Shoreham By Sea.
