About the event
The Adur River around Shoreham is a very special and protected site - known as an SSSI.
This intertidal stretch of river and site of mud flats and salt marsh is a haven for many birds providing rich nutrition and also roosting places. Regular inhabitants such as Oyster Catchers and and Turnstones are joined by migratory and over-wintering birds such as Redshank and Lapwings and many more. It is also a much loved paddling destination with its beautiful scenery and easy accessibility from Shoreham By Sea.
This two hour safari will begin with a short introduction about the unique characteristics of this SSSI from Shoreham District Ornithological Society (SDOS) member and birding expert Tony Benton. Then we will take to the river. Along the journey we will share guidance and knowledge to help you paddle with care and reduce your impact on this fragile habitat.
